THE ABYSS
(part one)

As we watch the chasm grow between us
In all our lives we’ve never seen us so apart
All I ever wanted was to know you
To spend a lifetime just to show you my very heart
Now it seems our legacy is fading
And for a lifetime we are trading a new frontier
The road on which we journey now diverges
And despite all of our urges I know the end is near

Somehow if you or I had seen the signs
And each confessed to all the crimes maybe in time
Who knows what circumstances may have been
The ins and outs and in between what may have been

In to every life falls a little rain
A little sadness a little pain How to cope
And it only breaks you if you let it
If we forgive and we forget it then there is hope
The road may stretch a million miles away
And for tomorrow and today hold tight my hand
For if our journey somehow ends
then it’s best we still be friends that much I understand

Somehow if you and I . . .

Hearts that for a time were so connected
Now only seem to be infected and filled with doubt
Now there isn’t time enough to heal them
So we choose just to conceal them within and without
We were both to blind to see the sunrise
And feel the passion close its tired eyes’
And leave us standing still
Like the scattered sunrise in November
Well find it harder to remember
Life is a bitter pill

Somehow if you and I . .

(part 2)

Are we really so different you and I
when the going got tough we both decided to fly
And I’m locked inside my room with a view
Thinking way too much about you
Trying to forget the reasons why I swim against the current and it starts to pull me down
I cannot see the surface and I know I’m gonna drown
The icy waters cover me I cannot feel my hands
I want to wake up from this nightmare lying on the sand

This load gets heavier with every step
The day is growing dark and it’s not half over yet
And I need to feel the touch of a hand
Of someone who really understands
Someone who can help me to forget

I swim against the current and it starts to pull me down
I cannot see the surface and I know I’m gonna drown
The icy waters cover me no air within my reach
I need to wake up from this nightmare lying on your beach

The abyss is so deep no light can ever get in
It’s like a slow cancer killing from within
And I feel no matter how hard I pray
The devil’s standing right in my way
It’s a cold fight to the finish I can’t win

I swim against the current and it starts to pull me down
I cannot see the surface and I know I’m gonna drown
The icy waters cover me no air within my reach
I need to wake up from this nightmare lying on your beach
The icy waters cover me I can’t feel anymore
I long to wake up from this nightmare lying on your shore

How can you know where the time seemed to go
When the face in the mirror looks back

(Part 3)

The journey’s far from over there’s many a winding road
Though your tears flow like rivers and you bear a heavy load
No one can carry you further the rest is up to you
But—I’ll be there waiting on the other side

Do you feel so alone sometimes when your world is so confused
Do you pray the Lord for guidance is your every wish refused?
I can’t walk the road beside you it waits for you alone
But I’ll be there waiting, I’ll be there waiting on the other side

Every breath of every day gives us something to believe
We fight the fight we stand so tall may your courage never leave
Don’t give up no don’t give in though your pain grows deep inside
And someday I will see you when you reach the other side

Is it in our place to question if our fates do not agree
Is there any consolation in the belief of powers that be
Cry upon my shoulder till every tear is gone
And I’ll see you when you reach
I’ll see you when you reach
I’ll see you when you reach the other side

(PART 4)

She lies amidst the rushing waters caressing her like a womb
She forces every thought from her mind, and seals it like a tomb
She dreams of travels far away to a place she’s never been
To a place she calls her sanctuary she journeys once again

But I saw her on Tuesday Her eyes were a window straight to her soul
She threw out her lifeline and pulled me right out of the watery hole
I saw her on Tuesday . . .
I saw her on Tuesday singing the sweetest song I ever heard
And all of the voices inside of my head suddenly silenced there every word

(PART 5)

Now we need to end our life together
And know that there is something better for you and I
If I’ve loved you, then true love is letting go
It isn’t easy but I know, I know I’ve got to try
Love, peace and understanding
May they always keep you landing upon your feet
May the wind always fill your sail
And may true love never fail until we meet
Until we meet on the other side

Now as I stand on a distant shore upon the path to evermore
And you’re not there
